White Painted Wood Floors......

Well.....after much deliberation
we finally decided on what to do
about the worn out carpet!
It has been down since we built the house 13 yrs. ago
and the time had come to replace it:D
The problem we had was.....I didn't want anything dark,
since all my furnishings
were based on the light almost cream colored carpet.
Hubby said we needed something darker
because of all the grandkids:(
I didn't want dark......so.....I set out to find something
that would meet both of our needs.
The alternative I came up with was
Shabby White Painted Hardwood" flooring!
Although it was much more expensive
than we wanted.....
we decided to do some of the grunt work ourselves
to cut costs:D
The flooring I found was a custom hardwood flooring
that had to be ordered
That was all right because we didn't have a rush!!!!
After two months the flooring came Monday.
It had to acclimate in our house......
which meant that it had to sit for 3 days before being installed.
Last night we moved all the doors and furniture
from the area.....
once again stacking everything in the dining room and piano room.
Not a big deal really:D
Today they started!!!!!! YEA!
They will be installing the great room and hallways first.
Once that flooring is in,
we will move the furniture back in and onto the new flooring
At that point we will clear out the kitchen and dining room.....
that means dishwasher, stove, frig, washer and dryer
....OH MY!
Hopefully the beginning of next week they will complete
the last two areas
and
we will then install our quarter round
and re-install some of our moldings (kitchen).

We are not putting the flooring in the bedrooms at this time.
I still like the feel of carpet when we trip out of bed:D

Little DIY just completed!

It appears I posted these pics in the reverse order.....but....Oh Well!
I found this silver tray at the thrift store and it had such an appealing shape and size
I couldn't pass it up!
As you can see the surface was in bad shape.....
which didn't bother me a bit:D
I decided it would make a darling chalk board for my kitchen....
so I proceeded with ChalkBoard Paint!
Once complete I put it on my counter with the help of a large metal easel
I had stored......and I just love it.
What do you think?

Wired!

Recently I have been drawn to any kind of wire sculpture......more functional than decorative. While shopping the Maeystown Flea Market several week ago, we found this wonderful rusted industrial basket. I knew it could find a good home with me......and sure enough after trying it several places it landed on our dining room wall. Now, I need to find a couple more to finish out the space. I really love it and it shows off my collection of white pitchers:D After cleaning it I gave it a coat of Poly to seal the rust and enrich the tone.

FINALLY......

After living here 13 years and countless attempts to find the right room......we now know which room we belong in.....LOL! Actually, when the TV went into the bedroom it became very difficult to know what to do with the large wall behind. I had a painting hanging there for some time, but only part of it was seen.....not the look I wanted:D After numerous searches online I was able to attain some old vintage sign letters that did the trick. Rog helped me to hang them and I am not sure we got it right......but it will due for now! I really like it!!!!!

this & that since I am snowed in.........

Project Rog and I finished last night:D I found this darling little 6 light brass chandelier at Goodwill!!!!! I spray painted it and once dry (took so long in this cold) Rog hung it in our little walk-in closet! No comment on the closet please:D We do the best we can.....ha..ha

Yesterday I made some Butternut Squash soup.....so good with a little nutmeg:D Since I had time....I photographed the progress.....that what snow can do!

Margo's new gig:D No school again today.....so she came to visit! Once the normal demands were met (food, bath and more food) she pulled off her bedspread and wore it like a cape...so silly! She has been wearing somekind of blanket or such for the past several weeks....plays hell with my house cleaning since dragging it around picks up all the dirt and dust that I have missed. Anyway, she is happy and I could really care less:D It is always something with this little girl and I simply love it all!

It is so GRAY outside and I was bored waiting for this HISTORIC STORM! Grabbing my camera, I took a few pics of the gloomy house......I NEED MORE SUN:D
Well..........that is it from this ice covered area of the Midwest! Stay warm and keep the chin up....Spring has to be close behind!

New Arrival.............

The new kid on the block is the round clock on the right:D
It arrived yesterday and I so love it with the others!
What kind of collections do you have? I would love to see......
just leave a message and I will include it on a post:D

Starting of a Wall Collage......

I finally got the Clock Faces hung.......nothing too exciting yet,
but we are not finished:D
I bought another couple of smaller clock faces on Ebay yesterday
and
I will be adding them when they arrive.
Also I am thinking of a vintage letter as well.............
will see what I can find:D

Birth of New Collection :D

I have always been intrigued with complex instruments and machines.
Something about the ingenuity that goes into their making!
Have you ever really looked at a piano....the inner workings of a piano?
What about a clarinet? Old typewriter????
Well, I have a new love of vintage clocks.......as some of you have seen
in past posts.
With Ebay handy and the help of my thrift shop excursions
I have a new collection being born.
Not sure where I will display these beauties,
but they should fit in almost anywhere:D
Here are my first purchases......the more rusty the better:)

They arrived....

My new love is old rusty nonworking clocks and clock faces:D
I have been purchasing on
Ebay and Etsy,
a great way to start my new collection!
Today my first purchases arrived and I couldn't be happier......
must leave that feed-back!
I plan on hanging them on the wall, but to keep them in view
for the time being.....I placed them behind my retro turquoise collection
on my kitchen windowsill :D
I also purchased some small vintage faces for my collage work.
Here they are below......aren't they sweet?

Will post more once I hang the larger ones and work with the smaller ones:D

Todays project.............

This is my project of the day......I have had the paint for months:D
This table and benches was a Garage Sale find some years ago
for a mere 35.00!
It is solid wood and extremely heavy.
It is not what I would have chosen for the center of our space on the lower level...
but
it was actually exactly what I needed.
Since we do most of our living on this level, I needed a place for kids to draw and eat.
It serves as a place to do many of my projects...
like sewing and serging:D
For several years it was my spot to cut out patterns as well.
Since it has a laminate (Ugh) top
which is functional, but not very pretty
I wasn't able to paint the entire table.
I left the bench tops natural wood as well
and
when the weather is a little warmer
I plan to take it out on the patio and sand/stain/seal!
This color is "Toasted Poppy Seed" from Walmart
and it isn't a gray or a true black...
somewhere inbetween:D
The dark bottom covers a world of sins
plus goes much better with the little black bar we have in the same area!
Next......take down the lighting fixture
and
spray paint it black:D
That is for another day....LOL

Christmas at Our House!

Our dining room tree is decorated in white/gold/silver! I really like the results.....and some of you will see the ornaments you have given me in the past:D I keep them all!!!!

The lantern is from Recycled Rose.....I bought several:D Love the battery run candles....makes it so safe when you have little ones around:D

This is the dining room table.

On the upstairs mantle I simply added live greenery......thanks Pat for the suggestion of getting free scraps from the tree lots. I used them all over the house:D

The shelf in the hall to the bedrooms. Simple.....less is more!

The downstairs tree is done in red this year! I simply got tired of the traditional tree and decided to change it up this year. I am sure I will go back to the old way next year.....but I really like the shift for one year:D

Almost all the presents are wrapped.....no comment, hubby helped...LOL! Hey, I am not complaining.....he HELPED!!!

Added a little bling to my vintage photo tree in the downstairs restroom.....people can sit and wonder...LOL!

The downstairs mantle is simple as well.........just an old violin some berries, greens and
ribbon. Several trees with no lights....just green:D

Hope your home is ready to celebrate as well!

Minor Changes......

When I get things the way I like them in my home,

I usually am happy for a long..long....long time!

Thus it was with my red hallway wall!

It added just the right amount of contrast and depth I wanted.

That was about 9 years ago!!!!!! Like I said,"I can be content for a long time:)" Anyway,

with Fall approaching,

I needed something new to liven our home.

Didn't have a lot to spend, but color isn't usually expensive!

I had been investigating a new color for my hall wall for some time,

so after some discussion I found a teal I thought I liked!

Painted the wall....stood back....and.....HATED IT!

It looked like a bedroom:(

Not good, not enough contrast YUK!!!

Back to the store I went and found this color.....much more intense,

much darker and just what it needed!

I was so pleased with the result.

Rog had repurposed this antique mirror holder

from and old dresser

into a shelf for me......and that was perfect!

Then a trip to Pottery Barn

where I found these wonderful pillows on sale....

for a touch of that dark teal to add to the living room!

I am so happy with the result and thought I would share:)

A little shopping and some visitors:D

I have had my eye on this rug at Target for almost 2 years now!
I love the textures and colors.
Although I loved it and visited the rug aisle everytime I was at Target.....
I really didn't have a place for it....SO I THOUGHT!
Well, today it dawned on me
that that rug would look great under our new coffee table on the lower level. Last night as I was working on the computer,
I looked at the room and thought it really needed a punch of color! WELLLLLLLLLL, why not the rug
............but...........
that isn't the end of the story.
When I got to Target I found the rug on sale!
Would you believe? 50.00 off!!!
YEA....and I love the way it looks :D
I found this fabulous primitive coffee table at a garage sale several weeks ago!
I just love it........especially when the kids are here and we are playing games:D
I will work well for Pizza nights also....in fact....San and Bus were over last night for the finale of SYTYCD and that is how we used it....for Pizza!

While Rog and I were laying our new rug,
his eye caught movement out in the yard!
There were 4 deer having their afternoon snack from my garden.....
little did they know that this is the last year that lunch will be served
at our house.
I have plans for the gardens and most will go.....due to the deer problem!
I plan on taking out all the treats and replacing them with items that are not desireable to eat:D
Good bye lilys, roses, Salomon's Seal etc. etc.......
Those deer were so curious about what I was doing as I snapped pictures
even though I was inside and they were out!
They were within 8 feet of the windows and doors to the
lower level:D

This and That...............

Since my creative juices have been working away from the home lately......I thought I would share some shots of our yard, inside and my girls:D Nothing too exciting........
Above is our bedroom.......I had never posted pictures of it before and thought it looked so pretty in the morning light. Below are some pictures I took of the outside.....it was raining at the time.

My girls as they played in the yard yesterday:)
Hope everyone had a glorious day!
