Let me start by saying that I have making purchases for a booth at the local Antique Mall! My sis and I will start on this new venture at the end of the month. Anyway, here is the thing......I purchase all these things for the booth and then after I clean them up or work on them a little.....I want to keep them:( That is not at all the way to do it......but it keeps happening. Let me tell you the story of these little chairs. It started one day last week when I headed to our local thrift store where I saw these little chairs with the caning all ripped and mangled. Well, I made my purchases (that didn't include those darling chairs) but continued to think about them. I mentioned them to my husband and we decided it would cost way too much to have them re-caned so I should be happy I didn't purchase them. It didn't stop there though!!!!! The next day I went back to see how REALLY bad they were! They were bad, but I went ahead and purchased the better of the two chairs anyway. I have a habit of doing this.....but at a thrift shop the item is usually gone by the next day:DWhen I got home, Rog said, "I thought we decided that wasn't a good idea because repairs would be very expensive?" I convinced him that I was only out a few bucks and I would come up with some solution to make it work! Now, mind you, he could really care less if I bought it or not.....but I was feeling guilty about again buying something that probably had little worth. Another project to sit in the storage area collecting dust and nagging at me every time I looked at it..... Well, I came up with a plan and found all the materials I needed right here in my stash....Yippee!Rog helped me by cutting out a template for the seat and removed all the caning:) Well, I was so excited about my plan I got up the next morning and YES.......I ran back over to purchase the mate to my little chair.......and surprise....it was still there:D Will wonders ever cease?So........TA DA.......here is the result. One chair finished and the other on it's way! I do have to tough up the scratches with a little Old English......but aren't they cute? Now, of course, I don't want to sell them! Am I being GREEDY or what? Last week it was a little chandelier I found. Now it works and has it's crystals and I want to keep it for my bathroom! At this rate I will never have anything for the booth!
