Greedy? I don't know!

Treadmills
Let me start by saying that I have making purchases for a booth at the local Antique Mall! My sis and I will start on this new venture at the end of the month. Anyway, here is the thing......I purchase all these things for the booth and then after I clean them up or work on them a little.....I want to keep them:( That is not at all the way to do it......but it keeps happening. Let me tell you the story of these little chairs. It started one day last week when I headed to our local thrift store where I saw these little chairs with the caning all ripped and mangled. Well, I made my purchases (that didn't include those darling chairs) but continued to think about them. I mentioned them to my husband and we decided it would cost way too much to have them re-caned so I should be happy I didn't purchase them. It didn't stop there though!!!!! The next day I went back to see how REALLY bad they were! They were bad, but I went ahead and purchased the better of the two chairs anyway. I have a habit of doing this.....but at a thrift shop the item is usually gone by the next day:D When I got home, Rog said, "I thought we decided that wasn't a good idea because repairs would be very expensive?" I convinced him that I was only out a few bucks and I would come up with some solution to make it work! Now, mind you, he could really care less if I bought it or not.....but I was feeling guilty about again buying something that probably had little worth. Another project to sit in the storage area collecting dust and nagging at me every time I looked at it..... Well, I came up with a plan and found all the materials I needed right here in my stash....Yippee! Rog helped me by cutting out a template for the seat and removed all the caning:) Well, I was so excited about my plan I got up the next morning and YES.......I ran back over to purchase the mate to my little chair.......and surprise....it was still there:D Will wonders ever cease? So........TA DA.......here is the result. One chair finished and the other on it's way! I do have to tough up the scratches with a little Old English......but aren't they cute? Now, of course, I don't want to sell them! Am I being GREEDY or what? Last week it was a little chandelier I found. Now it works and has it's crystals and I want to keep it for my bathroom! At this rate I will never have anything for the booth!

I am chuckling as I look around at all my thrift store treasures. I think it is much harder to part with something I have rescued, redone or refurbished than something brand new.I don't think you are greedy. People like us get so much pleasure out of making something wonderful out of something most would not bother with that I think the items belong with us to be loved and cherished! The chairs are beautiful.

That is going to be one EMPTY booth!
Your chairs are darling...maybe it is fate that you have them since you continued to dream of them...and they were still there...I'm just sayin'...

Your not greedy. And it's not luck. It is fate that you would find and rescue the wonderful chairs. I would say your muse was dancing and dancing until you followed her. Now you both have a chair to sit it.
And by the way, you amaze me with all the projects you manage.

Looks great. What did Rog make the template out of?? One of my dining room chair backs with caning needs replacing and I'm not quite sure how to do it? I have ideas swimming around in my head, but that's as far as I've gotten. ~Teri~

Teri.....Rog cut the seat shapes out of 1/4" plywood! I wrapped cotton batting (4 thicknesses) over that and staple gunned it on. Then I put the upholstery fabric on! I used some small black upholstery piping around the edge that I glued on. Last, Rog drilled holes through the bottom rim of the chair and screwed the new chair seat in place! Hope that makes sense......

Oh, wowie; how gorgeous they are! My motto is "Never sell anything you LOVE!" Thus my house is bulging, but in a happy way. In fact, I have a lovely chair I bought sitting in a spare bedroom, with the same loose caning. Now I know what to do with it thanks to you! What did you use for the hard seat--plywood? And where did you get the FAB fabric??? Linda

Linda....my hubby used 1/4" plywood to cut out the seat and the fabric was from Jackman Fabrics in St. Louis! If this is Linda Shields.....I have more of the fabric and you are welcome to some of it! I tried clicking on your name and an error kept coming up! Not sure which Linda this is:)

I have a habit of buying fabric or other stuff in order to create and then sell, but alot of it is hard to sell and part with. The chairs look fantastic :)

Haha! Greedy? No. Human, yes! I am afraid if I ever had a store or a booth I would also do the same thing!! I would only buy things for my booth that I like and then wouldn't want to part with them! But it sounds like so much fun for your job to be hunting antique treasures!!

You know as soon as you open that booth at the antique mall you will need to let me know so that I can go shop.

Just letting you know that the Pevely Flea Market is this weekend.

Great chairs!
