Strip quilting.....

This method of quilting has captured my heart. It is fast and easy. What's more, if it doesn't line up perfectly it doesn't show......What more could a girl ask for......especially a newer quilter.......
I just cute all different strips of my patterned fabrics starting at 1" and going to 2 1/4" thickness. I usually cut up all my fat quarters so that I don't run out halfway through. I usually use 7 fat quarters for the patterned part. Then I start sewing them together side to side. When my piece measures about 40", I start again making a new piece of strips sewn together.
When I have finished that part, I cut my solid (or sort of solid fabric) into 2" strips...I do the same with the stripped pieces as well. Now sew one solid to one stripped piece (each 2" pieces). Of course you have to press after each step.....forgot to mention that:-D. Take one piece of two and sew it to the next...making sure there is a strip and then a solid piece, a strip and then a solid piece. These will be sewed together right sides together. Now stitch the other side of the four stripes....making a tube of sorts. Using your square measure plastic thingy cut into 7" triangles. You will cut one and then the next will be cut upside down and so on and so on. You should get about 5 pieces out of each 40" section. When you open these triangles you should have a quilt square that has a pieced and then solid....pieces and then solid. Press and set aside. Once you have them all cut and pressed you can arrange them in many ways to achieve different effects. I usually use the solid (or sort of solid fabric) for a border around the outside edge. I hope I haven't completely confused you.......but I can get a quilt (baby) top done in a day with no problem. I take my quilt tops to a local church where the ladies quilt them for me. For about 40.00 for labor I have a beautiful gift or blanket for one of the kids........ Posted by Picasa
