ShARiNg.......

Treadmills
Several of you have asked how I made the twirley skirts and did I use a pattern! Yes, I start with a pattern. A rather dumb looking pattern I might add (only my opinion:). Pattern 4252 by Simplicity.....
I used the top tier of the pattern and the second tier down also, but nothing more. I altered the second tier by adding a second piece only about half as wide but a completely different pattern! I ruffled both pieces together as one before attaching them to the top tier. I doubled the length of the second tier to make the last tier of the skirt.....that way I could use the "2" setting on my ruffler! Rufflers are WONDERFUL!!!! My ruffler cost 34.00 and is a pretty universal ruffler.....if you don't have one and love making kids clothes....it is a MUST!!!!
The bottom layer is hemmed ahead of time with my blind hemmer on my machine (a little foot you add!). Then I ruffle it..............but do not sew it together at the end....leave it as one long piece. Next, I ruffle the two pieces together that will make the second tier down (no hem required because it will be attached to the bottom tier. I leave the second tier as one long piece also after ruffling (I set my ruffler on "6" for that tier). Last is the top tier and it needs NO ruffling because it will have elastic to pull it in when complete! NOW, just sew the three tiers together, and then sew the entire skirt together up the side seam.......turn over the top to make a casing for your elastic....leaving one small inch area open to feed the elastic through. I use my zig zag on all seams to keep it from fraying in the washer and dryer:D.....put in your elastic and you are ready to Party!!!!!! Any other questions....just write me......this may be clear as mud to many of you!

Your artwork is just amazing. I LOVE the acrylic painting. But now I'm feeling guilty that I haven't been making clothes for my granddaughters. But there are THREE of them! (And I don't like making clothes!!!) What a great grandmother you ARE! Linda

Thanks for sharing...your instructions are pretty clear to me. I don't have a ruffler, but I zig zag over a piece of dental floss that I bunch up as I sew and it works great, so far. I may have to get a ruffler, tho, since those twirly skirts look adictive!
