Beloved Lafayette Square.....

Treadmills
Ever since I was a young girl I have been infatuated with the homes and atmosphere of Lafayette Square......an Historic neighborhood in our beautiful downtown St. Louis area! The streets are charming with glimpses of granduer that have survived well over a hundred years. When I was in my 20's the houses were in terrible shape and many were ready for the wrecking ball......shells could be purchased for 2 or 3 thousand dollars! The work was intense and families struggled living in one room or on one floor while they worked on another! Hard Work.....and so much of it! Now, some 40 yrs. later....the homes have almost all been brought back to their spendor and the streets and park are again filled with people walking, riding bikes, scooters and visiting with their neighbors. As children, I would bring my kids down for the house tours and for a Sunday brunch. My oldest fell in love the area as a young boy of maybe 12 or 13 yrs. old! He vowed to live there someday and that is where he landed! He and Sheila (his wife) have just completed some expensive work on their home and yard (little tiny jewel:). They are planning on building on next year due to the arrival of their twins a year ago:) I too would love to live there and Rog and I have been through many homes just dreaming what it would be like living so close to our babies:D Sunday we all went out for dinner at a darling little restaurant called "Square One Brewery" and then took a walk through the neighborhood. I thought these pics would tell it all to those of you that are not living close! And.....by the way....the homes now sell for 300,000 and up to a million:) See what a little work will do for you....tee...hee!

Linda...I love what they've done for Lafayette Square. Those homes are beautiful! I've never been fortunate enough to see them up close and personal

J and I took a trip to the city, Saturday. Didn't get to Lafayette Square, though. Perhaps next time!

What is it about doors that makes them so fascinating? New, old, refurbished, falling off the hinges....they can all have such tremendous beauty. Thanks for posting them.
